Migrating Browser Passwords to 1Password

This guide goes over migrating passwords from your web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge) to 1Passsword. This will ensure that all passwords are retained in 1Password and removes the need for a built-in browser password manager.

1Password can import your passwords from your preferred web browser. When you import to 1Password: 

  • Your passwords will be converted into 1Password Login items.
  • Only passwords will be imported. Credit cards, addresses, and other information won’t be imported.

Exporting Passwords

Exporting Passwords from Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the Edge menu in the toolbar and choose Settings, then click Passwords.
  2. Click the ellipsis at the top right of the list of saved passwords and select Export Passwords.
  3. Click Export Passwords and enter the password you use to login to your computer.
  4. Save the Microsoft Edge Passwords.csv file to your desktop.


Exporting Passwords from Google Chrome

  1. Select the Chrome menu  in the toolbar and choose Passwords and Autofill > Google Password Manager.

  1. Choose Settings in the sidebar, then select Download file in the Export passwords section.
  2. Enter the password you use to log in to your computer.
  3. Save the Chrome Passwords.csv file to your desktop.


Exporting Passwords from Mozilla Firefox

  1. Select the Firefox menu in the toolbar, then choose Passwords.
  2. Select the ellipsis in the top right and select Export Passwords.
  3. Select Continue with export and enter the password you use to login to your computer.
  4. Save the passwords.csv file to your Desktop. 


Importing to 1Password

  1. Open and unlock 1Password
  2. Click the ellipsis at the top of the sidebar and choose Import.
  3. Select the place you would like to import from (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.)
  4. Select Add File and choose the CSV file from your file browser. 
  5. Choose the account you would like to import into and select Import

  1. Delete the CSV file that you imported from your computer!
