Spam and phishing emails are a common occurrence in the modern working environment. Spam or phishing emails cannot always be flagged by Microsoft’s filters, other emails could also be misidentified and sent to spam by mistake.
To help Microsoft (and therefore your company) improve the filters and prevent this from happening in the future, please do not ignore or delete the spam emails. Instead, report the junk and phishing emails to Microsoft with one of the methods listed below. This also enables IT to easily investigate the issue, should it be widespread.
Outlook on Windows
- Select the email that you want to report as junk or phishing. Click on Report Message, and then select Junk or Phishing on the drop-down menu to report the junk or phishing email to Microsoft.
- A Report Message dialog box will then pop up, click on Report if you want to send a copy of this message to Microsoft to help the research and improvement of email protection technologies. Otherwise, click on Cancel.
Outlook on the Web (Outlook Web App/OWA)
- Select the email that you want to mark as junk or phishing.
- Click on Junk on the ribbon, and then select Junk or Phishing as you need.
- If you select Junk, the message will be moved to Junk folder. If you select Phishing, a dialog will pop up as shown below, please click on Report.
Report to Microsoft via a New Email Message (not recommended)
- Create a new message.
- Select the emails that you want to report as junk or phishing, and then drag them into the new blank email.
- To report the emails as junk, copy and paste junk@office365.microsoft.com in the recipient box; To report the emails as phishing, copy and paste phish@office365.microsoft.com in the recipient box.
- Click on Send to report the junk or phishing emails.
